Very proud to be working as Weave Technician at the Glasgow School of Art.  I learned  how to weave here, and was taught by the very talented Chantal Balmer, who I am currently covering for while she’s off on maturnity leave.

One of my screen print designs on sale in River Island now!

I am still settling in to my new home and my new job, but new creative ventures are not too far from my mind.  Here are some inspiring woven textiles I came across.  Hopefully I will have some new work to post very soon.

You can take the girl out of the city, but you can’t take the city out of the girl.  This is a lovely film about what Glasgow is.  I think it will always be the place I call home.

I have now been employed at David Howard for a month! In celebration, and to ease my longing for loom related activities I have treated myself to this book. Please do watch this space for creative updates coming soon.

Since accepting my new job at David Howard a couple of weeks ago, I have felt the imminent loss of access to a loom rather acutely.

Stumbling across these images from Andrea Donnelly (Little Fool Handwoven Textiles), has all but accentuated that rather melancholy emotion.

Beautiful, inspiring work.  Go and look at more of it now!

Stephanie Ruddie - Woven Textiles Designer

Specialising in menswear and interiors, Stephanie uses traditional techniques to create intricate, forward-thinking textiles with high sensitivity to market and end uses.  We met at New Designers 2012 and I hope to see more of her work in the very near future.

Watch the promotional film for her collection Jacob’s Ladder.

And find out more about her here.

Good News!  I have a job! You are now looking at a Trainee Weave Designer for David Howard Group.  I start on the 18th of March so I’d better get organising a relocate from Glasgow to sunny Ware, Hertfordshire.

Jane Harper - Woven Textiles Designer.

These pieces, titled Collapsible Construction, are from her Degree Show Collection (Central St Martins 2012). They are all woven as one piece on a dobby loom and manipulated post weaving.  They are stunning examples of innovation within loom based practice.
